Why a 1 Carat Diamond Costs More Than One Under 1 Carat
Larger diamonds are rarer, so the price per carat rises with size. A 1 carat diamond costs more than two 0.5 carat diamonds together.
One carat is also a “magic size”, so diamonds at 1 carat carry a higher price per carat than those just below it.
